In April 2017, after working in various formations, Joachim Caffonnette, a well established Brussels-based jazz pianist for almost a decade, come back to one of the most solid and mutable combo of the jazz history : the piano-trio. After an album and lots of concerts with his quintet, Caffonnette crossed path with two young cats - Alex Gilson and Jean-baptiste Pinet. Together they organised a small tour in France and Belgium, playing standards and bunch of originals. The harmony between three musicians inspired Caffonnette to write more material. Concerts come one after another, and were quickly followed by recording of their first album named «Vers l’Azur Noir» (Towards The Black Azure). The LP is dedicated to the memory of migrants who died in the Mediterranean, victims of the madness of a dehumanised world, the leader stating loud and clear his commitment through the liner notes. Since release of the album in April 2019, the band travels between clubs and festivals in Europe, expanding their repertoire with new compositions proving once again Caffonnette’s love for harmonic adventures, strong melodies, living swing and timeless impressionism.
